Duhawks Drop Early Match to UW-River Falls

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team fell to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, 4-3, Tuesday morning.

With the match getting moved up to 8:00 a.m. due to heat, the Duhawks had no problem playing some early morning tennis, as they secured the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.

Saydie Roling and Clara LeConte were 6-3 winners at No. 2, while Megan Covelli and Gemma Zeckser took down Makenna Sanders and Felicity Fischer, 6-4, at No. 2 to secure the point.

Despite winning doubles, the Falcons rallied to take 4-of-6 singles matches.

Mary Breitbach took down Brooke Linderman at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1, after dropping her doubles match against Linderman.

Covelli was the other Duhawk in the win column. The sophomore defeated Emma Yanish at No. 4, 6-4, 6-1, for her first singles win of the year.

Up Next: Loras will travel to Monmouth, Ill. on Saturday, Sept. 5, to take on the Monmouth College Fighting Scots and the Millikin University Big Blue. Match time against the Scots is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., with the match against the Big Blue to follow at 12:30 p.m.
