DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's soccer team used an explosive first-half performance to earn a 5-1 victory over Westminster College (Mo.) on Tuesday night inside the Rock Bowl.
Loras wasted little time getting on the board.
Sep Heerkens opened the scoring in the fourth minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Maximilian Stalenczyk to give the Duhawks an early 1-0 advantage.
The Duhawks doubled their lead just over seven minutes later when
Joseph Sorce scored at 10:42 off an assist from
Julian Lopez, pushing the Loras advantage to 2-0.
Loras continued to apply pressure and added its third goal in the 21st minute when
Townes Robertson converted a penalty kick to make it 3-0. Just under five minutes later,
Sam Keen joined the scoring with a goal off an assist from
Ernesto Silva, extending the lead to four.
Keen then helped create the Duhawks' fifth and final goal. In the 31st minute,
Lance Grandgeorge finished off Keen's assist to give Loras a commanding 5-0 advantage heading toward halftime.
Westminster broke through in the 71st minute when Jack Hughes converted a penalty kick, accounting for the final goal of the night.
Loras finished the match with a 22-5 advantage in shots, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. The Duhawks also earned nine corner kicks compared to two for Westminster.
