Simon’s Double Paves Way for Duhawks

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Duhawks.com) – After last Sunday's setback in the Rock Bowl, the Duhawks began the healing process on Saturday, defeating St. Olaf 3-2. Junior Jorge Simon kept his boot in perfect form, adding two more tallies, including the game winner in the 81'.

After a horrid start that saw the Oles get on the board in the 12', Loras responded in the 25' off a long throw from sophomore Jimmy Ralph. With Simon in the box standing in at 6-3, Ralph targeted the head and Simon flicked it on towards goal and leveled the match at one.

The teams finished the half at a 1-1 leveling, despite Loras outshooting St. Olaf 8-3.

Sophomore Alex Bradley opened the second half with his third goal of the season, directing in the corner kick offering from senior Tom Fluegel. Loras maintained their lead the rest of the half and added to it in the 81' when freshman Spencer Moore drew contact in the box and the Duhawks were awarded the penalty kick.

The sure-footed Simon stepped up and banged home a double to make it 3-1 Loras. His goal would prove to be crucial as in the 82', St. Olaf capitalized on a cross to the front of the six, with Jens Undlin notching his fifth goal of the year.

After coming on for senior Sean Elvert in the 17', sophomore Adam Roloff made two saves over the remaining 73 minutes to earn his first victory of the year.

With the victory, Loras improves to 5-1-0 and will play Saint John's tomorrow at 2 p.m.
