Loras Track & Field Opens 2015 at Sol Butler Classic

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) – The annual Sol Butler Classic hosted by the University of Dubuque was the site of the Duhawks' first track meet of their 2015 indoor season. On the women's side, the team scored 78 points, good enough for second place out of the nine women's teams competing. The men scored 45.5 points, putting them in fifth place out of ten competing schools.

There were a handful of individual victories on both the men's and women's side highlighted by sophomore Elizabeth Brandenburg and junior Zach Frey. Brandenburg, the Aurora, Illinois product, won the 55m women's hurdles in a time of 8.63 seconds. She added to her win total with a first place finish in the women's pole vault, successfully clearing a height of 3.35m. Frey, the Cascade, Iowa native, was impressive in the 600m race, finishing first with a time of 1:21.67. Frey's time puts him second in Loras history in the 600m race.

The women's team was also victorious in the 4x200 relay finishing in a time of 1:49.61, with the team of junior Bree Powers, sophomore Alexis Hanson, and freshmen Alyssa Simon and Devin Hasson. The team of Hanson, Powers, senior Mercedez Kennedy, and freshman Sarah Schoel also took the crown in the 4x400 relay, finishing in 4:16.49.

Senior Morgan Steere also finished third in the women's weight throw with a distance of 12.63m.

The men's lone individual victory came in the 600m, but there were plenty of top five finishes to compliment Frey's performance.
