Track & Field Continues Streak at UW-Platteville Invitational

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Duhawks.com) – The Loras Track & Field team competed at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday, once again posting strong results across the board. In total, nine events were won by the Duhawks as well as personal bests set in six events. So far, in each competiton, Loras has continued to showcase strong individual performances and Saturday proved to follow the trend.
 
Sophomore Elizabeth Brandenburg added yet another pair of victories to her name, winning both the 60m hurdles and the Pole Vault. After posting a time of 9.21 seconds in the preliminaries, Brandenburg won the event with a time of 9.15 in the finals. Later, in the pole vault, Brandenburg posted a PR with a height of 3.56m.
 
Freshman Alyssa Simon ran a PR in the 200m dash, earning third place with a time of 27.15 seconds. In the 400m dash, Duhawks finished in second and fourth as freshman Alexis Hanson ran a time of 1:00.82 seconds while junior Bree Powers came in fourth with a time of 1:01.76 seconds.
 
The Duhawks added a win in the 4x400 relay with the team of Hanson, Powers, and freshmen Sarah Schoel and Emily Ney. While it wasn't a season's best time in 2015, Loras' time of 4:05.42, a full second faster than Dubuque's relay team who finished second.
 
Turning to the field events, Loras collected wins in the long jump, shot put and weight throw.
 
Schoel took first place in the long jump with a distance of 5.08m. Joining Schoel at the top of the podium was senior Morgan Steere who added wins in the shot put and weight throw. Steere reached a distance of 12.65m in the shot put and 16.38m in the weight throw.
 
In the men's events, senior Kyle Ward ran a PR in the 60m dash thanks to his time of 7.03 seconds. While it earned him a fourth place finish, Ward's time was .08 seconds faster than his time last week at the Keck Invitational.
 
Senior Zach Frey earned his third win this season in the 800m run, besting the rest of the field by almost a half second. So far, Saturday's time is Frey's best of the season.
 
In the 3000m run, freshman Timothy Sevcik and senior Brady Hunt both set PR's. Sevcik's time of 8:57.13.
 
Loras' 4x400 proved to be exceptional once again, taking first with a time of 3:25.63.
 
The Duhawks are set to compete at the University of Dubuque Invite on Friday, February 20. This will be the last event of the indoor season before the Iowa Conference Championships hosted by Wartburg on February 27.
