BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Duhawks.com) – Competing for the first time in two weeks, the Loras Track & Field teams showed little signs of rust as both teams turned in strong performances at the Keck Invitational, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University. The men's team finished in second place, one point behind Wash.-St. Louis, and the women finished in fourth.
For the women's team, sophomore
Elizabeth Brandenburg continued her dominant 2015 campaign by posting a time of 9.11 seconds in the 60m Hurdle finals to capture her fourth victory in as many meets this season. She also placed second in the pole vault with a jump of 3.43m.
Other top five finishes were turned in by sophomore
Alexis Hanson, who ran season best in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.92. Junior
Bree Powers finished fifth in the 400m dash, running a time of 1:02.15. The women's 4x400 relay team, consisting of Hanson, Powers, and freshmen
Sarah Schoel and
Devin Hasson, finished third with a time of 4:04.86.
Senior
Morgan Steere placed second in the women's shot put, throwing a distance of 12.4m, as well as a third place finish in the women's weight throw with a distance of 14.98m.
In the men's competition, Loras totaled three individual winners and one relay win. Junior
Zach Frey added another win to his belt in the 800m Run, posting a time of 1:55.99, just two hundredths of a second ahead of Britt Henderson of Wash.-St. Louis.
Joining Frey in the winner's circle was junior
Stedman Foster, who won the 400m Dash with a time of 50.71. Finishing behind Foster was sophomore
Brandon Gradoville. Freshman
Gerrand Moody earned himself a first place finish in the 60m Hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.71 seconds.
Loras' 4x400m Relay team captured top honors, besting Wash.-St. Louis, with a time of 3:23.98. The four-man squad included Foster, Gradoville, senior
Zac Gassman and Frey.
Gassman added to his strong day with a third place finish in the 200m Dash with a time of 22.78. Senior
Kyle Ward posted a time of 7.14 seconds in the 60m Dash, earning him third place honors. Junior
Matt Marter finished in fourth place in the men's mile with a season's best time of 4:33.87, and freshman Tim Sevcik finished third in the men's 3,000 with a time of 9:12.26.
Junior
Keontae Neely had a productive day in the long and triple jump with second and fourth place finishes jumping 6.33m and 12.75m, respectively. Junior
Dan Vatch finished in fourth place in the men's high jump clearing a height of 1.82m.
In the men's weight throw, senior Nathan Meiers had a career day, throwing a personal best of 16.61m, good for third place.
The Duhawks will be back in action next Saturday when they compete at UW-Platteville. Saturday's invite is the second-to-last before the Iowa Conference Indoor Championships, which are hosted by Wartburg College this year and will be held on February 27.
