DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras College Women's Lacrosse team looks to build off of a successful spring break trip in week five with games against Dubuque, Beloit, and Illinois Tech. Winning back-to-back games to close out week four, the Duhawks will open play with a midweek battle with crosstown rival Dubuque on Wednesday night before taking on Beloit and Illinois Tech this weekend.
HANSON GARNERS MWLC AND CHAMPPION HONORS...
Hanson finished the week with eight goals, four ground balls, one assist, and one caused turnover, as the Duhawks went 2-1 on their spring trip. In their lone loss on the week, Hanson netted her third hat trick of the season against Saint Mary's. The Hartland, Wisconsin native followed up that effort with a two-goal and four-goal effort against Wilmington and Hanover. Hanson's standout performances garnered conference recognition as MWLC Offensive Player of the Week while adding Champpion of the Week honors to her resume.
SPRING BREAK BRINGS OUT BEST IN DUHAWKS ...
Finishing off their trip with wins over Wilmington and Hanover, the Duhawks notched back-to-back wins for the first time in the program's three-year history. Loras' 8-7 win over Wilmington marked the program's first win on a spring break trip.
WELL-ROUNDED NELSON DOES IT ALL ...
Sophomore Hannah Nelson continued her stellar sophomore campaign in week four, tallying six goals and one assist offensively while bolstering the Duhawks' defense. The Fenwick alumnus added six ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers in her midfield role for the Duhawks. Nelson's four goals against Wilmington, highlighted by the game winner, tied a career-high set earlier this season.
COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH, SCHWALBE SCORES...
With time winding down and the score level at eight, sophomre Anna Schwalbe burried a shot to lift the Duhawks to a 9-8 win over Hanover. Showing the ability to be a serious threat on attack over her career, Schwalbe possessed a feed from freshman Haley Sundquist before firing off the game winning goal.
KNOCKING OFF THE SPARTANS ...
Wednesday night's crosstown clash between the Duhawks and Spartans has the ability to be the best in the storied rivalry. Each team will enter the match up with momentum from the strongest starts in each program's history. Loras holds the upperhand, owning a 2-1 record against the Spartans. The Duhawks most recent win came a season ago, junior Kaitlyn Kutsch tallied eight goals to lead Loras to an 11-7 win in the Rock Bowl.
