INDIANOLA, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team powered to a clean three-set (25-14, 25-16, 25-23) sweep on the road over Simpson winning their first conference game of the season. The Duhawks held their highest attacking percentage of the season at .257 in the win. Junior
Haley Bergan led with 19 of the 64 digs for the Duhawks.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Set One
- Senior Therese Schultz and freshman Kelly Boge started Loras off on a strong foot, recording a pair of kills each as the Duhawks took an early 10–3 advantage.Â
- Loras built off the early lead and increased its control of the match thanks to a a five-point service run from senior Danni Kennedy established an impressive 21–11 lead.Â
- A kill from Schultz capped the first set with a final score of 25–14. She finished the match with nine kills.Â
Set Two
- The start of the second was back and forth resulting in an even draw at 10-all.
- A three-point service run from sophomore Jenna Mazur gave the Duhawks a 13–10 advantage.Â
- Senior Tara Blake was assigned to setting duties in the back-row, delivering the ball to freshman Michelle Budden for one of her seven kills to open a 21–15 lead for Loras.
- The Duhawks operated at a scorhing .536 attacking percentage to help pace the offense en route to a 25–16 set two win.
Set Three
- Mazur started the third set off strong thanks to a pair of service aces to open a 5–1 lead. Mazur finished with four service aces, which brought her season total to 12.
- After an attacking error, Kennedy erupted with back-to-back kills, opening some breathing room for Loras with a 14–10 lead.Â
- The Storm showed signs of life late in the set, rattling off four consecutive points to level the game at 23-all.
- An Simpson attacking error paired with a kill from Danni Kennedy brought an end to the match and sent the Duhawks on their way with their first IIAC win of the season.
FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME
Danni Kennedy I Kennedy was seemingly unstoppable for Loras, totaling 12 kills on 24 attempts while only making one error. Defensively, Kennedy paced the block at the net, finishing with three total blocks.
