WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday night to Wartburg, falling to 9-12 overall and 1-6 in the Iowa Conference. Therese Schultz combined for 24 kills on the evening while junior
Haley Bergan added 33 digs in defeat. With the loss, Loras is officially eliminated from Iowa Conference Tournament contention.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Set One
- Loras jumped out to an early lead using a kill from senior Therese Schultz to increase their advantage to 6-2, prompting a Wartburg timeout.
- Cruising through set one up 20-16, the Knights made their push, scoring four straight tallies to even the frame at 20-all.
- A punctual timeout from head coach Jenna Ness allowed the Duhawks to make set one's final run, ripping off five of the next seven points to finish off Wartburg in the frame, 25-22.
Set Two
- The Knights came out firing in the second set, racking up seven early kills to take a commanding 11-3 lead.
- A couple small runs allowed the Duhawks to cut the deficit, but ultimately the early lead proved too great to overcome with Wartburg winning the frame, 25-19, and evening the match at 1-1.
Set Three
- After taking a 8-3 advantage to open the third, the Knights allowed Loras to erase this deficit, tying the frame at 8-all on a kill from freshman Kelly Boge.
- With the score 19-all in the latter stages of the frame, Wartburg found its form, reeling off six straight points to take set three, 25-19.
Set Four
- A kill from Kennedy gave the Duhawks their first lead of the frame, forcing a Knight timeout leading 14-13.
- Loras extended its lead to three when another Boge kill made the score 20-17, prompting the second Wartburg timeout of the set.
- An 8-3 run from the Knights to close out the match doomed the Duhawks as they dropped the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.

Haley Bergan | The junior from Edgewood, Iowa continued her strong play on the back-end for Loras, recording 33 digs and a service ace in four sets.
