WHITEWATER, Wis. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team (10-17) saw its winless streak extend to four on Saturday after dropping matches to Carthage (15-10) and UW-Stevens Point (23-7) at the Dig Panici Classic. Junior
Haley Bergan reached 500 digs in a season for the third time in her career and now sits at 525 after this weekend's action.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Loras vs. Carthage
Set One
- Carthage quickly broke out to a 17-6 lead that made it difficult for the Duhawks' comeback bid to be successful.
- A late five-point service run from senior Danni Kennedy, which included two service aces, brought the Duhawks to within five at 23-18.Â
- The Lady Reds responded with consecutive kills to finish the set, 25-18.Â
Set Two
- Once again, Carthage gained an early advantage and did not look back, running out to leads of 4-1 and 12-5.
- Loras showed signs of life with a three-point run to cut the deficit to 13–9, highlighted by a service aces from junior Haley Bergan.
- After a kill from sophomore Reilly Kuhn at 16–10, the Lady Reds exploded with a 9-0 run to win the second set, 25-10.Â
Set Three
- Head coach Jenna Ness looked to the freshmen on the roster to start off the third set of the match.Â
- The changes resulted in a balanced attack from the Duhawks, remaining in striking distance for a majority of the set.
- Freshman Meghan Bayer ripped off three kills in the set, but another long run by Carthage at 18–15 closed the door on Loras, 25–17.
- The Lady Red offense totaled a .389 attack percentage in the match while holding the Duhawks to a .012 attack percentage.
Loras vs. UW-Stevens Point
Set One
- Aggressive serving and lethal poise at the net allowed the Pointers to race out to a 22-6 lead, which included a nine-point run beginning at 4-3.
- With their backs against the wall, the Duhawks went on a six-point run but in the end fell short, 25-13.Â
- In set one alone, UW-Stevens Point totaled five service aces.
Set Two
- Four Loras attacking errors dug an early 7-3 hole for the Purple & Gold.Â
- Sophomore Jenna Mazur went on a four-point service run, which included a pair of service aces, leveling the frame at 7-all.
- The level ground was only temporary as the Pointers responded with a six-point run of their own to open a 13-7 lead.Â
- The Duhawks struggled to pass, resulting in an 18-10 lead for UW-Stevens Point.
- A strong defensive effort by the Duhawks brought Loras from 23-12 to 24-16, but the Pointers regained composure and put away the second set, 25-16.
Set Three
- Senior Therese Schultz started the third set off strong with a block and followed with a kill to keep the Duhawks alive early.
- Aggressive net play kept the Duhawks in contention, taking a 13-12 lead.
- UW-Stevens Point regained the advantage at 17-13, forcing a timeout from Loras.
- Untimely errors piled up for the Duhawks, allowing the Pointers to put a close to the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.Â

Michelle Budden I In two sets against Carthage, Budden totaled four kills and a .333 attack percentage, as well as a block assist.Â
Haley Bergan I Bergan's defense kept the Duhawks alive late in sets, finishing with 23 digs against UW-Stevens Point. She now sits at 1,721 career digs, needing 97 to become the all-time leader at Loras.
