GRINNELL, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Loras junior
Elizabeth Brandenburg repeated as an All-American in the pole vault on Friday at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships, hosted by Grinnell College. After being seeded 11th entering the weekend, Brandenburg rebroke her own Loras record, clearing 12-7.5 (3.84m).
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS - Brandenburg led things off by clearing 3.40m, 3.55m and 3.70m with flying colors, all on her first attempt. At 3.80m, Brandenburg missed on her first attempt before clearing on her second, resetting her own school record. At the very next height of 3.85m, the junior missed on her first two attempts before clearing on her third.
- Originally seeded 11th, Brandenburg repeats as an All-American in the pole vault after previously earning honors at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
- Not long after Brandenburg finished with the pole vault, she turned her attention to the 60m hurdles. The quick turnaround was hard on the Aurora native, resulting in a time of 9.13, finishing in 17th.
- A day after being presented with the Elite 90 Award for highest GPA of a championship participant, senior Zach Frey narrowly missed out on his chance to earn his third All-American honor in the 800. Coming in as the fifth seed with a time of 1:52.30, Frey came up .08 short of qualifying for Saturday's finals, finishing in 1:55.68.
- Loras third national qualifier was senior Bree Powers in the 200. Powers, who was the last qualifier selected, moved up four spots and set a personal best on Friday, finishing in 13th with her time of 25.590.
