DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras track and field program posted a pair of second place finishes at the University of Dubuque Invitational on Saturday. On the women's side, the Duhawks finished with 138 team points and 15 top-five finishes while the men's team finished with 169 team points and 22 top-five finishes.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- The tandem of senior Bree Powers and junior Alexis Hanson finished second and third respectively in the 200m. Powers turned in a time of 25.37 while Hanson was right behind her at 26.23.
- Sophomore Sarah Schoel won the 400m with her time of 1:00.57. It was the first time in her career that she ran the 400m.
- Freshman Allie Serres finished third in the 400m, coming in at 1:01.33.
- In her first outdoor 800m race, freshman Kemunto Ondande won with her time of 2:20.22. Freshman Liz Venezio took third with her time of 2:23.95.
- Junior Audrey Hooks posted the top time in the 100m hurdles preliminaries and took second in the finals with her time of 15.41.
- Sophomore Devin Hasson took second in the 400m Hurdles with a PR time of 1:06.87. Freshman Taylor Schaefers came in third with her time of 1:11.03.
- The Duhawks swept the relays on Saturday, winning the 4x100 and 4x400.
- The 4x100 team, consisting of sophomore Rachel Kilburg, Powers, Hanson and sophomore Alyssa Simon, won with a time of 48.48, which ranks 37th in Division III.
- In the 4x400, Loras' team of Powers, Kilburg, Simon and Hasson took first with their time of 4:04.27.
- Junior Elizabeth Brandenburg won the Pole Vault for the third time in the outdoor season with a height of 3.76m.
- Schoel added her second top-five finish, taking second in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.23m, good for a PR.
- Simon converted her speed into strength, winning the Javelin with a mark of 38.10m. Freshman Taylor Dooley placed fourth with a distance of 27.72. Both marks were PR's for Simon and Dooley.
- As a squad, the Loras women placed second with 138 team points.
- Junior Bradon Gradoville got the Duhawks on the board with his fourth place finish in the 200m, finishing in 23.14.
- Loras claimed the top-four spots in the 800m, led by sophomore Kylian Lally's first place finish in 1:53.62, which ranks 10th all-time at Loras and was a PR.
- Freshman Jack Carroll took second in the 800m with his time of 1:55.96. behind Carroll was junior Nathan Kimbrell placed third, running the 800m in 1:56.64. Junior Brien Nugent rounded out the top-four with a PR time of 1:57.08.
- Sophomore Matt Gagen placed second in the 1500m with a time of 4:14.96, less than a half second behind the winner.
- Senior Brady Hunt took fifth in the 1500m with his time of 4:17.83.
- Sophomores Gerrand Moody and Andrew O'Neill finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 110m Hurdles. Moody turned in a time of 15.37 while O'Neill was .51 behind his teammate with his tiem of 15.88.
- Loras added a pair of top-five finishes in the 400m Hurdles, led by senior Jake Brock's second place finish in 55.95. O'Neill placed fourth with his time of 1:01.69.
- The Duhawks won the 4x400 Relay with the team of senior Stedman Foster, Brock, senior Nick Ball and O'Neill, finishing in 3:23.02.
- Seniors Keontae Neely and Dan Vatch finished fourth and fifth in the High Jump with Neely at 1.85m and Vatch at 1.80m.
- In the Pole Vault, Loras took home the third through fifth place finishes. Sophomore Nick Dreska led the way for the Duhawks with a third place finish and height of 3.85m. Behind Dreska was junior David Rodgers in fourth (J3.85m) and sophomore Chris Ball (3.70m).
- Neely won the Long Jump with his mark of 6.56m. Freshman Martin Rodriguez turned in a fourth place finish in his first collegiate meet, leaping to a distance of 6.29m.
- In the Triple Jump, it was Neely (12.81m) and Vatch (12.02m) once again, this time finishing third and fourth.
- Brock won the Javelin with a distance of 53.43m. Sophomore Andy Reed took second with a mark of 46.46m.
- As a team, Loras' men finished second with 169 team points.
UP NEXT
Loras will be represented at two events this coming week. First, a selected group has had their entries accepted and will compete at the Blue Oval in Des Moines for the 107th annual Drake Relays. Those not competing in Des Moines will make their way to Indianola, Iowa for the Kip Janvrin Open.
