DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras softball team dropped two games in their Iowa Conference opener against Wartburg on Thursday. The Duhawks fell 10–1 in game one and 7–4 in game two. Sophomore
Bria Lenten led the team offensively, going 4-for-5 on the day with one run run and one RBI.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- Game one against Wartburg got off to a slow start as both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings, despite both recording hits.
- In the bottom of the second, Makaila Haase recorded her 15th hit of the season and 100th of her career with a single to center field.
- Freshman Hannah Towns recorded the Duhawks' only extra base hit with a double in the bottom of the fourth. Unfortunately, Loras was unable to bring Towns around to score.
- The Knights were the first to score in game one with a run in the top of the fourth. They extended their lead in the fifth with four runs on five hits.
- Three more Wartburg runs in the sixth increased the Knight's advantage, 8–0.
- Sophomore Bria Lenten tallied her 14th RBI of the season, scoring freshman Mikaela Lengwin in the sixth inning for what proved to be Loras' lone run.
- Wartburg tacked on two more runs in the seventh as security, clinching a 10–1 victory.
- The Knights were first to score again in game two, but this time Loras responded.
- After Wartburg's Hannah Blaske hit a two-run home run in the top of the first, Loras freshman Megan Larson smashed a RBI double into left center, scoring junior Dani Stromert.
- Larson later came around to score on a double steal with Lenten, tying the game at 2-all.
- With a 2-for-4 performance in game one and her walk in game two, Stromert increased her on-base streak to seven games.
- Wartburg created a 7–2 deficit for the Duhawks with three runs in the second and two more in the fourth.
- Lenten recorded her team-leading sixth and seventh multiple-hit games, going 2-for-3 in game one and 2-for-2 in game two.
- Sophomore Briana Minet was brought on as a pinch runner and later came in to score on a RBI groundout by Stromert.
- With runners on second and third, representing the game-tying run, Haase flew out to center to end the threat and hand Wartburg the two-game sweep.
- In the circle as relief in game two, junior Erin Hosch induced a season-high 11 flyouts.

Bria Lenten | The sophomore went 2–for-3 in game one with one RBI. Her single to right field scored freshman
Mikaela Lengwin for the Duhawks' lone run of the game. She would later finish the day 4-for-5, raising her batting average to .382 on the year, third best on the team.
Megan Larson | The freshman went 2-for-3 in game two with one RBI. Her double in ther first inning scored Stromert for Loras' first run of the game. Larson leads the Duhawks with 15 RBIs and a .615 slugging percentage.
UP NEXT
The Duhawks will travel to Pella, Iowa on Saturday, April 9 to face Central in a doubleheader. The Dutch (16–8, 2–0 IIAC) swept Simpson on Tuesday by scores of 6–5 and 3–1. Loras is 1–4 against Central in their last five meetings.
