NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - Freshman phenom
Audrey Miller made the most of her last chance to qualify for the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, breaking her own school record for the third time this spring at the Gregory Invitational, hosted by North Central College.
Miller first broke the school record on April 15 at the UW-Platteville Invitational, running the 5k in 17:27.18, breaking the 17-year record own by Jenny Richey. Two weeks later, at the Kip Janvrin Open, Miller took second and re-broke her record, finishing in 17:14.49. Despite securing her place in the Loras record book, Miller still found herself on the outside looking in at a spot at nationals.
On Wednesday, Miller became the first runner in school history to record a sub-17 minute 5k, running her season-best time of 16:59.55 and in the process, not only won the race, but secured her place at the national meet which is set to take place next week. Her time ranks 16th in Division III.
Senior
Maggie Saenz Ruiz won the 10k with her time of 37:05.84, which ranks 42nd in Division III. Her 10k time from the Drake Relays is her best of the season and ranks 36:26.42.
In the men's 5k, senior JP Sevick finished 20th in the field with his time of 15:35.29.
