Women's Track & Field | May 30, 2016
WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships came to a close on Saturday with Loras totaling three more All-American honors. Seniors
Zach Frey and
Bree Powers were joined by freshman
Audrey Miller on the podium inside Walston-Hoover Stadium. Junior
Elizabeth Brandenburg opened the championships on Thursday with a runner-up finish in the Pole Vault.
After missing out at indoor nationals this year, Powers found an extra gear come outdoor season in the 200m. The New Lenox, Ill. native qualified on Thursday for Saturday's final and moved up one spot from her No. 8 seed to finish seventh with a time of 25.23. Powers concludes her Loras career as the all-time record holder in the 200m.
In his final race of his collegiate career, Frey earned his third All-American honor in the 800m. In Friday's preliminary, the Cascade prep ran to a seventh place finish with a time of 1:50.92. On short rest, Frey managed the race to his advantage and ran himself to a fourth place finish in 1:51.80. Frey ends his career in the Purple & Gold second on the all-time list in the 800m.
With the year that Miller has had for Loras, all that was needed to cap an electric campaign was a top-eight finish in the 5k. As the school record holder with her time of 16:59.55, Miller entered the championship weekend seeded 16th in a 22-runner field and as the only freshman. The newcomer ran like an experienced upperclassman, working her way into a seventh place finish with her time of 17:05.30.Â
In the team standings, Loras' women finished in a tie for 22nd with 12 points while the men totaled five points to come in 53rd place.
