Late Inning Heroics Puts Duhawks Past Bobcats

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team kicked off its season in Florida against University of Pitt-Greensburg, opening with a pair of wins. In both games, the Duhawks got off to slow starts only to rebound with a 6-2 win and a 9-8 win.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Game 1
• Loras got off to a slow start, by hitting the first hitter of the game, who later scored, to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead after the first inning
• It took until the 3rd inning for the Duhawks to get on the board due to a RBI single from Austin Konagel that score Joe Egan who got to third on a wild pitch
• Loras crossed the plate again in the fourth inning on an fielding error from Pitt-Greensburg which scored Danny Paluch
• The Duhawks added insurance in the top of the sixth after Ryan Wohlers drove in two runs on a single to right field
• Later that inning, Luke Fennelly singled home Egan to put Loras up five
• The Bobcats scratched a run across in the bottom of the inning, but the Duhawks come away with the victory

Game 2
• Loras started slow again in game two, as they went down 3-0 after the first inning
• In the second inning, Pitt-Greensburg added to their lead with a grand slam for the 7-0 lead
• The Bobcats added another run in the 3rd which came off a solo home run to left center
• In the bottom of the third, the Duhawks got on the board scoring on a passed ball followed by a fielding error
Robbie Agerbeek added to the rally in the fourth, leading things off with a solo home run to cut the lead to five
• The Duhawks picked up three more runs in the fourth which came from a wild pitch, fielding error and a bases-loaded wa
• Loras headed into the bottom of the sixth trailing by two, but the help of a 3-run homer from Oglesby gave the Duhawks a 9-8 lead

NOTABLES
Sam Marhefke, earned his first career collegiate win in game one.
Ethan Peters came into relief for the first time in his college career, and held Pitt-Greensburg scoreless while striking out two.
• Agerbeek's home run in game two marks his first of his career.
-Freshman, Edward Erickson made his first college appearance, and pitched three innings while allowing one run on two hits.

UP NEXT
The Duhawks will head into day two of their Florida trip by facing former conference opponent, Cornell College, tomorrow at Osceola Heritage Park. Loras defeated Cornell in Dubuque last season 7-2 and will meet them again later this season. First pitch for tomorrow is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. (EST)
