DECATUR, Ill. (Mar. 7, 2020) – The Loras College baseball team (1-4) grabbed its first win of the season over Knox College (0-3) by a final score of 2-1 as
Sam Marhefke picked up his first win of the season as well on the mound for the Duhawks.
The Duhawks helped out Marhefke by adding two early insurance runs after
Luke Fennelly hit an RBI single to left field advancing to second on the throw scoring
Dakota Church.
Bill Luzzo singled to right field advancing Fennelly to third allowing
Ryan Wohlers to single through the left side scoring Fennelly. In the top of the fourth inning, Marhefke struck out the side with the last one looking to end the inning. Both teams traded back-and-forth scoreless innings as the game wore on as Loras held onto their 2-0 lead. The Prairie Fire rallied in the top of the ninth inning scoring one run but the Duhawks struck out the final batter of the game giving Loras a 2-1 victory.
The Duhawks are set to play two games on Sunday, March 8, with the first game against St. Norbert College to begin at 10:00 A.M. followed by a 1:00 P.M. start versus Millikin University in Decatur, Ill.
