Riley Collins and sophomore
Sean Gelski teamed up and placed third in B-flight doubles at the 2020 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Individual Tournament on Saturday in Des Moines, highlighting the Duhawks' success at the tournament. The 2020 tournament took place at three locations with the A-flight competing in Waukee, Iowa, the B-flight in Des Moines and the C-flight in Norwalk.
In A-singles,
Kevin Blomquist started the day with an 8-4 win against Central College's David Boschma and closed out the tournament with a win in the final round against Reade Reiter from Simpson College, 8-4, to go 2-3 on the day.
In the B-flight,
Joe Schneider secured a first round win against the University of Dubuque's Devon Gerber, 8-2 and
Eian Coad defeated Wartburg College's Jared Hefel, 8-5. Coad added another win in the quarterfinals against Cole Lohoefener from Nebraska Wesleyan University, 8-2 but fell to Wartburg's Cade Davis in the third-place match to finish fourth. Schneider added two more wins in the consolation bracket with an 8-4 win against Simpson's Ethan Humble and an 8-2 win against Wartburg's Nile Petersen.
In the C-flight,
Gannon Harrington scored his first collegiate win against Dubuque's Maxwell Flaten, defeating him 8-0 and his brother,
Martin Harrington defeated Simpson's Zachary Ambrose, 8-1. He then went on to win two more matches in tie breakers, with the first against Dylan Roseburrough from Central , 8-7 (2-0), and the next against Zach Normal from Dubuque, 8-7 (5-0).
In doubles play, A-flight duo
Tommy Linkenheld and
Konnor Barth defeated Wartburg's Lucas Huffman and Jackson Eells, 8-6. Gelski and Collins got things going for the Duhawks in the B-flight with a win against Wartburg's Jack Veber and Noah Mason, 8-1 and went on to win against Hayden Retzlaff and Vihn Le from Nebraska Wesleyan in the quarterfinals, 8-4. Gelski and Collins met a familiar pair in the third place match, facing teammates
Connor Pivnicka and
Thomas Kampmier, but battled through to an 8-6 win.
Loras will continue practice throughout the fall in preparation for the spring season with all eyes on the conference automatic qualifier tournament.
