ST. PETER, Minn. (Oct. 3, 2021) – Splitting the squad between the ITA Regional Championship and Midwest Open across six sites to close out the fall season, the Loras College men's tennis team (1-1) saw
Joe Schneider and
Thomas Kampmier advance to the quarterfinals at the Midwest Open.
Schneider defeated Bode Carter from Coe College, with a comeback after a 4-6 first-set loss to take the next two 6-4, 10-6. He then took a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Jon Kannenberg from Wisconsin Lutheran College before facing Lincoln Maher from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, falling 6-3, 6-2. Kampmier started his tournament with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Saint Mary University's Caden Rodning and battled through to a 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 win against Cooper Anderson from Saint John's before dropping a 6-3, 6-2 matchup to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Ryan Forseca.
Also claiming win at the Midwest Open were
Konnor Barth, who advanced to a second-round match at the Midwest Open on Friday, defeating Luther College's Connor Fuzzey, 1-6, 7-6, 10-7 came up short against Macalester College's Alex Poland, 6-4, 7-6, and
Sean Gelski. Gelski won his first match against Luther's Sebastian Zavala, 6-2, 6-3 before falling 6-0, 6-2 to Ryan Will of Saint John's University. Â
The Duhawks now turn their attention to preparing for the spring season and American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action in the new year.
