CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A trio of Duhawks from two different programs captured American Rivers Conference Athlete of the Week honors in their respective sports as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Tyler Bass grabbed his first career Player of the Week award following his performance in a pair of Duhawk wins this past weekend. The Washington, Ill. native posted back-to-back double-doubles in the first two games of his senior season, scoring 18 points and pulling down 10 boards in the 104-71 win over the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday and tying a career-high 25 points and securing 11 rebounds in the 84-76 victory over The University of Olivet on Sunday. Bass shot .565 percent from the floor across both contests, while also adding six assists and four steals to his stat line as well.
The Purple and Gold host the Northland College Lumberjacks in a nonconference showdown on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
For the fourth time this season, members of the Loras College women's soccer team have swept the A-R-C Player of the Week awards.
Emerson Gasmann was named Female Athlete of the Week along with Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after scoring the game-winning goal in the A-R-C Tournament Championship match against Simpson College this past weekend. She netted home the third goal of the night to secure the Duhawks fourth straight A-R-C Tournament title. The McHenry, Ill. native has scored five goals on the season and has tallied five assists.
Karly Weiss also claimed her first career Defensive Player of the Week accolade this week. She helped the Duhawks register their 17th shutout of the year in the 1-0 win over Central College in the A-R-C Tournament semifinal match. Most recently, she assisted the Purple and Gold in a 3-2 comeback win over Simpson in the A-R-C Tournament Championship. The Marion, Iowa native is a key member of the Loras defense. This year she and the strong Loras defense have held 16 opponents scoreless.
The Duhawks welcome St. Catherine University to the Rock Bowl Saturday, Nov. 16 for the First Round of the NCAA National Tournament. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
