Box Score 2 DECORAH, Iowa – The Loras College men's tennis team split a pair of matches inside the Robert and Ann Naslund Sports and Recreation Center this past Saturday.
The Purple and Gold opened up American Rivers Conference play in their first match of the day against Luther College, before closing out competition against Grand View University.
Luther 8, Loras 1
The Duhawks were unable to contend in doubles play against the Norse, but grabbed one victory at No. 6 singles, while also sending two matches into tiebreakers.
Andrew Day picked up the sole singles victory for Loras (2-4 overall, 0-1 American Rivers Conference) with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Nate Withers, while
Gage Becker forced a tiebreaker with Felipe Biscaro in the No. 1 spot. Becker ultimately fell 2-6, 6-4 and 10-6, while
Thomas Kampmier held his own at No. 2 singles, taking Gennaro Dimuro to a tiebreaker, before falling 6-0, 3-6, and 7-6 (7-2).
Loras 6, Grand View 3
Against the Vikings, the Duhawks came out on top in two doubles matches to hold a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play. Sam Cañas Guerrero and Becker defeated Abbot Haner and Zach Wallace 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, while
Sean Gelski and
Diego Hernandez Arrazate followed suit with an 8-2 win over Lier Ayavza and Samuel Londono in the No. 3 spot.
Becker kept the momentum going in his No. 1 singles matchup with Dylan Ramsay, securing a 6-4, 6-3 win, while
Lucas Healy did the same at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win of his own. Day completed an undefeated day with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Londono, while
Henry Condo handled Ayavza 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to score the Duhawks final point of the match.
Up Next: The Duhawks travel to Orlando, Fla. to play in five matches during the week of March 11-14. The Purple and Gold will kick things off against Ohio Wesleyan on Monday of that week at 8:00 a.m.
