Box Score 4 ORLANDO, Fla. – The Loras College men's tennis team posted a 2-3 record on its spring break trip in Florida last week.
Ohio Wesleyan 7, Loras 2
Gage Becker and Samuel Cañas Guerrero scored the sole point for the Duhawks in doubles play after taking down Marcelo Aguilar and Elliot Spicer, 8-6, in the No. 2 spot. Loras (3-5) contended at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, but both
Thomas Kampmier and Cañas Guerrero ultimately fell in the tiebreaker in their respective matches.
Kareem Kassas tallied the only point in singles play for the Purple and Gold, defeating his opponent, Kobe Francis, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Wheaton (Mass.) 7, Loras 2
Once again, Becker and Cañas Guerrero allowed the Duhawks to trail by just one point heading into singles play after earning an 8-2 victory over Paul Berteaux and Jake Murray at No. 2 doubles. Kampmier recorded the final Loras (3-6) point of the match at No. 3 singles with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Murray.
Loras 6, Anderson 3
Against the Ravens, the Duhawks came out on top in all three doubles matches to hold a lead for the first time during the trip heading into singles play.
Lucas Healy and Kampmier took care of business in the No. 1 spot with an 8-3 victory over Dylan Lemon and Martin Suarez, while Becker and Cañas Guerrero outlasted Arturo Mendoza and Sarvar Muzaffarov at No. 2 doubles to come away with a 8-7 (9-7) win.
Andrew Day and Kassas completed the doubles sweep with an 8-7 (7-3) win over Davis Borders and Cory Evans in the No. 3 spot.
Becker secured a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win over Suarez at No. 1 singles, while Healy followed suit at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Evans. Day cruised past Jacob Davenport 6-0, 6-2 to score the final Loras (4-6) point at No. 6 singles.
Loras 5, Belhaven 4
Loras (5-6) picked up a pair of wins in doubles play thanks to Becker and Cañas Guerrero who took down Jesus Diaz and Josiah Leggett, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles and
Henry Condo and Day who persevered at No. 3 doubles to come out on top 8-7 (7-3) against Mark Breedlove and Hayden Lassiter.
In singles play, Kampmier handled Justin Humphrey 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot, while Cañas Guerrero edged Lassiter 3-6, 7-5 and 10-3 in the tiebreaker at No. 5 singles. Day grabbed his second victory of the week at No. 6 singles after defeating Leggett with ease 6-2, 6-1.
Piedmont 8, Loras 1
Day tallied the only Loras (5-7) point of the entire match, taking down JC Foster 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Sean Gelski forced extra points against Simon Johnstone at No. 3 singles as did Cañas Guerrero in his match against Brent Sherman in the No. 5 spot, but both ultimately fell to their respective opponents.
