Loras Dominates A-R-C Weekly Awards with Four Honorees

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Four Loras College student-athletes earned American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Athlete of the Week honors across two sports and three programs, the league office announced Monday.

For men's cross country, Isaac Bourne was named Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week following another standout performance. Bourne placed third out of 407 runners with a time of 24:25, earning a top-25 award despite unseasonably warm conditions.

Up next: The Duhawks travel to Rock Island, Ill., for the Augustana Interregional on Saturday, Oct. 18. The men's race is scheduled for 11 a.m.

In men's soccer, Sep Heerkens claimed A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season. Heerkens tallied two goals, including the game-winner in a 3-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and added three assists during the week, totaling seven points. He currently leads the team with 19 points on the season.

Up next: Loras heads to Decorah, Iowa, to face Luther College on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The women's soccer team swept the A-R-C weekly awards for the third time this season. Belle Johnson earned Offensive Player of the Week recognition after recording a goal and back-to-back assists, the first of which was the game-winning goal. Ivy Wessel was named Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring two shutouts and limiting opponents to eight shots combined in two games. Wessel also netted her first collegiate goal, the game-winner, in a 5–0 victory over Buena Vista University.

Up next: The Duhawks will also travel to Decorah to face the Norse on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
