Six Duhawks Represent Loras at Luther Open

DECORAH, Iowa — The Loras College women's wrestling team competed at the Luther Open on Saturday morning inside Gerdin Fieldhouse.

Six Duhawks suited up for the Purple and Gold, including Kylie Loffer, Emely Mejia, Bailey Welu, Bella Baer, Izabella Peters, and Lucy Read.

In the 103-pound bracket, Loffer dropped a 7–0 decision to Southeast Community College's Molly Spader before falling 8–4 to Upper Iowa's Bentley Hills. She closed the day with a 10–0 tech fall loss to an unattached opponent.

Mejia, wrestling at 110 pounds, fell in both of her matches, dropping a 12–7 decision to UW–Stevens Point's Savanna Millermon and a fall to Wartburg's Lainey Shelangoski.

At 124 pounds, Welu was forced to forfeit and default both of her matches.

Baer and Peters represented Loras in the 160-pound class. Baer fell 2–0 to Buena Vista's Destiny Kolheim and later by fall to UWSP's Julia Van Buren. Peters went 1–2 on the day, falling by tech fall to Luther's Kelsey Knief and Augustana's Maryam Ndiaye before earning a win by forfeit over Upper Iowa's Kylie Doty.

Competing at 180 pounds, Read dropped both of her bouts, falling to Joliet Junior College's Jessica Komolafe and UWSP's Madalyn Sokolski.

Up next: Loras hosts Buena Vista University in a home dual on Thursday, Nov. 20, with action set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
