DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Loras College women's track and field team opened the indoor season with a standout performance Saturday at the Bumble Rumble, hosted by St. Ambrose University, highlighted by record-breaking efforts and multiple event victories.
Keelee Leitzen headlined the meet for the Duhawks, breaking the school record in the 600 meters. Leitzen crossed the line first in 1:35.69, shaving 1.5 seconds off the previous school mark set in 2022. She later anchored the 4x400-meter relay, teaming with
Katie Flynn,
Rosie Flynn and
Layla Hughes to claim the event title in 3:57.38, a time that currently ranks second in Division III.
Loras also found success in the throwing events, as
Caitlyn Cox captured the weight throw with a season-best mark of 19.53 meters. Her winning throw leads Division III by more than six feet.
The Duhawks continued to pile up victories on the track, including a strong debut from
Emery Wherry in the 60-meter hurdles. Wherry won the event with a personal-best time of 9.64.
Bailey Vaughan added another first-place finish in the 1,000 meters, clocking 3:13.25, and later returned to win the mile in 5:23.31. Teammate
Ivy Glendening followed closely in second, running a 14-second personal best of 5:23.65.
In the field events,
Maddie Mucci claimed the triple jump title with a mark of 11.10 meters, while
Bryn Meyer posted a personal-best leap of 5.31 meters in the long jump. Andelyn Calbalka added a third-place finish in the event with a jump of 5.12 meters. The high jump saw a one-two finish for the Purple and Gold, as
Grace Cummins and
Julia Klein both cleared 1.51 meters to finish first and second.
Loras closed out the meet with another impressive showing in the 400 meters, led by the Flynn sister duo. Katie captured the win with a personal-best time of 58.22, moving her into seventh on the program's all-time list, while Rosie followed in second with a personal-best time of 58.75, which ranks 11th in school history.
Up next: The Duhawks travel to Monmouth, Ill., on Saturday, Jan. 24, to compete in the Fighting Scots Invite hosted by Monmouth College.
