Henning, Palmer Earn A-R-C Athlete of the Week Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A pair of Duhawks took home American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Athlete of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

From softball, Kaili Henning is earning her second A-R-C Pitcher of the Week award this season after leading the Duhawks to a 3-1 week with a win over Luther College and a sweep over No. 23-ranked Central College.

Against the Norse, the sophomore tossed a four-hit shutout in the 1-0 game-one win and then followed that performance up with yet another complete game, this time throwing a two-hit shutout against the Dutch. The Fort Dodge, Iowa native finished the week with the two wins to go along with a save in game-two against the Dutch. She allowed only six hits and struck out eight batters.

Loras will head to Storm Lake, Iowa this Friday, May 1, for the conference finale against Buena Vista University. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.

From men's tennis, Jaimes Palmer is earning his first Athlete of the Week honors after helping the Duhawks to a 3-0 week which included beating Central for the first time in program history.

The freshman from Surbiton, United Kingdom went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles, earning wins over Jake Westberry and Andrew Bollis from UD, and Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy and Gavin Jablonski from Central. Palmer then capped off an undefeated week in doubles with a win over Grant Love and Hudson Christie from Simpson at the No. 1 doubles position.

In singles play, Palmer was 2-0 at the No. 4 position, taking down Westberry 7-6, 6-2, and Jablonski 0-6, 7-5, 6-2.

The Duhawks are back in action on Tuesday, April 28, for the opening round of the A-R-C tournament. Loras will host Central College at 4 p.m. from Tucker Tennis Courts.
