DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras Men's Tennis team dropped their Iowa Conference match against Luther on Wednesday, 8-1. A lone victory in doubles' play was all the Duhawks could muster on a cold and windy day in Dubuque.
The doubles tandem of senior
Brian Falvey and freshman
Zach Atzen shined brightly for Loras, as the two powered their way to an 8-5 victory over Luther's Sam Cychosz and Quinn Foley. Unfortunately for Loras, it was all down hill from there. Losses at No. 2 and 3 doubles gave the Norse a 2-1 advantage entering singles' play.
At No. 1 singles, Falvey suffered a setback to Trent Schneider, 6-2, 6-2. Coming off a 2-0 showing against Buena Vista last Saturday, junior
Ulises Hernandez dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles to Luther's Anders Jensen.
Three of the new faces to the men's tennis roster dropped decisions at No. 3, 4, and 5 singles. Freshman
TJ Esporas lost 6-0, 6-2, while sophomore
Justin VanWambeke lost 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore
Jason Derby fell 6-0, 6-2.
Loras turns their attention to their regular season finale next Wednesday when they take on the University of Dubuque Spartans.
