LORAS HIGHLIGHTS- Coming off their first MCVL victory of 2016 against North Central, Loras matched up with the No. 3 ranked Carthage Red Men in Kenosha, Wis.
- Set one was tightly contested from the outset as the Duhawks held an early 7-5 lead after a kill from freshman Austin Kuchenbecker.
- Loras clung to one-point advantage as freshman Ryan Galvan put away a kill off the block to make the score 11-10.
- With junior Griffin Shields at the service line, the Red Men rattled off a string of five consecutive points, prompting a Duhawk timeout with the score 15-11 favoring Carthage.
- From here, the Red Men found their rhythm and used this cushion to cruise to the set one victory, 25-16.
- Galvan and sophomore Dylan Ross both registered three kills in the first frame.
- Carthage, having seized control of the momentum with a strong finish in set one, got out to an early lead in the second frame.
- The Duhawks were forced to take a time out in the second frame with Carthage leading, 7-1.
- Despite the break in action, Loras struggled to find its' game and were unable to chip away at the lead.
- The Red Men closed out the set in decisive fashion to the tune of a 25-9 victory.
- Set three featured a fast start for Carthage once again as they took a 4-1 lead.
- However, this time Loras fought its' way back, prompting the Red Men to call a time out with the score at 7-all. Â
- After the time out, both sides traded points until the score was 11-10 in Carthage's favor.
- From this point, the Red Men used a 14-6 run to close out the third frame and sweep the match.
- Kuchenbecker recorded a season-high four total blocks in the match.
- Loras falls to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in MCVL play, while Carthage improves to 12-1 and 5-0 in the MCVL
