BROOKFIELD, Wis. (Duhawks.com) - Sunday marked the third consecutive win for the Loras men's tennis team in the spring season, as the Duhawks defeated Wisconsin Lutheran, 8-1. WIth the win, Loras continues to have unprecedented success to its sesason, improving to 3-0.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- After not competing in Saturday's match against Lakeland, junior Jason Derby moved into the No. 1 spot in singles, dismissing Wisconsin Lutheran's Derek Sallman, although it did require a tiebreaker. After winning the first set 7-6, Derby dropped set to 7-5 before regaining the momentum in the tiebreaker to win 10-7.
- The Warriors earned their lone win of the match at No. 2 singles as Zach Birner edged senior Ulises Hernandez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
- Sophomore Kevin Murphy made light work at the No. 5 spot, handing Wisconsin Lutheran's Ryan Eastman, 6-0, 6-2.
- In doubles action, Loras swept all three matches.
- The freshman duo of Sean Baldwin and Riley Michel battled through adversity to win 8-6 over Sallman and Birner.
- Murphy and Derby combined at No. 2 doubles to win 8-3, while Hernandez and senior Neil Kane won easily at the No. 3 spot, 8-0.
