HILTON HEAD, S.C. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras tennis program traveled to the east coast for its spring trip and over the first two days of competition, went 1-3 between the men's and women's programs.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- In the first match of the trip for the men's program, Loras lost a close battle with North Central, 5-4.
- The Cardinals took a 2-1 advantage in the match, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
- At the second slot, junior Jason Derby and sophomore Kevin Murphy needed an extra set, prevailing to win 9-7.
- In singles play, Derby added a second win to his belt at No. 1, winning 6-3, 7-6.
- Freshman Sean Baldwin claimed a win at the No. 3 spot, defeating North Central's Aleksandar Vasic, 6-4, 6-2.
- Murphy joined Derby with his second win, besting the Cardinals' Adam Winters, 7-6, 6-3.
- On Wednesday against Greenville, Loras dropped all three doubles matches by identical 8-4 margins.
- In singles' play, senior Neil Kane battled back from a dropped first set of 6-4 to push the match to extras, winning the second set, 7-5. In the tiebreaker, Kane was edged by a 10-5 margin.
- Greenville claimed all nine wins, dropping the Duhawks to 3-2 in the spring season.
- The women's team faced the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in their first match, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
- Between the two matches, Loras dropped all but one set.
- Junior Jessica Dickhut and freshman Emma Cook were victors at the No. 2 spot, winning 8-1.
- Sophomores Rachael Molidor and Ayla Graziano made it a clean sweep at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-0.
- Cooke added her second victory of the day at No. 2 singles, defeating the Eutectics' Masa Kurenok, 6-3, 6-2.
- Graziano made it 2-for-2 on the day with her win at the No. 5 spot, defeating Victoria Mauzy in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
- Freshman Marnie Ferguson clinched the win for the Duhawks at No. 6, defeating Grace Gisi, 6-3, 6-2.
- In its second match of the trip, Loras faced the University of St. Thomas. The Tommies came in undefeated at 9-0 on the year.
- Pietruszynski battled at No. 4 singles, but lost to St. Thomas' Audra Hoffmann, 6-3, 6-1.

The Duhawks conclude their time in South Carolina on Thursday, with the men facing Buena Vista and the women facing Greenville.
