DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) – The Loras men's tennis team won their second match in as many days over Knox on Sunday afternoon, 7-2, improving to 5-4 on the year. The five wins is the most by a men's tennis team since the 2009-10 season in which Duhawks finished 7-16.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- The Duhawks almost made it two consecutive days of winning each set in the doubles portion, taking victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles matches by identical scores of 8-2.
- At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of freshman Sean Baldwin and freshman Riley Michel pushed the match to another set, but came up short in the tiebreaker, falling 9-8, 7-4.
- At No. 1 doubles, junior Jason Derby, continued his dominance by winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 to improve to 3-3 this season.
- Senior Ulises Hernandez took after Derby's performance with a straight-set win of his own by scores of 6-4, 6-2. Hernandez now sits at 3-4 this season.
- At the No. 4 spot, Michel made quick work of his opponent, winning 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 3-4 in his freshman campaign.
- After Saturday's three-set thriller, sophomore Kevin Murphy lightened his load, winning at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Murphy is now 4-2 on the year.
- Senior Neil Kane wrapped up the convincing win at the No. 6 spot, winning 6-3, 6-2, improving to 3-4 this season.
