DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's tennis team concluded the regular season on Tuesday night against Wartburg. Freshman
Sean Baldwin claimed the Duhawks lone victory at No. 5 singles as Loras fell to 9–9 overall and 2–5 in the Iowa Conference.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- Wartburg came out on fire by claiming wins in all three doubles matches.
- A hard-fought battle at No. 1 singles saw junior Jason Derby and sophomore Kevin Murphy come up short, 8–6.
- Freshman Riley Michel, at No. 4 singles, also found himself in a closely contested match. The Huntley, Ill. native dropped the first set 6–3, but bounced back to force a third set tie break, winning set two 6–4. The third set tie break was tight, but Michel came out on the losing end, 10–8. Michel closes the regular season at 9–9 in singles play.
- Loras' lone win of the match came at the No. 5 singles spot where freshman Sean Baldwin cruised to a 6–1 set one victory. The Davenport, Iowa native did not slow down and won the match in straight sets, claiming set two, 6–3. The win is Baldwin's seventh of the season.
UP NEXT
The Duhawks will travel to Cedar Rapids on Friday to participate in their first Iowa Conference tournament since 2007. As the No. 6 seed, Loras will have a rematch with Wartburg, who earned the No. 3 seed. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. from the Clark Racquet Center on the campus of Coe College.
