Duhawks Take Three in Minnesota

MANKATO, Minn. (Duhawks.com) - Women's tennis completed a clean sweep on Saturday against Bethany Lutheran and Minn.-Morris. On the men's slide, Loras dropped a close match to the Vikings, 5-4, before posting a 9-0 victory against the Cougars.

HIGHLIGHTS 
Men's Tennis
  • Senior Jason Derby and junior Kevin Murphy went 4-0 with two wins at No. 1 doubles while also adding two wins at No. 1 singles for Derby and No. 2 singles for Murphy. 
  • Loras received another 4-0 day from sophomore Riley Michel, who improved to 8-2 this season with a win at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 5-7, 10-3 against Bethany Lutheran and. Later, against the Cougars' Matthew Fischbach, Michel cruised to victory, 6-0, 6-1.
  • Michel added wins in both of his doubles matches with help of sophomore Sean Baldwin with scores of 8-5 and 8-3. 
  • In their sweep of Minn.-Morris, the Duhawks posted convincing singles wins from both sophomore Eric Zirzow and freshman Quin Cockrill, winning 6-0, 6-0 in both. 

Women's Tennis
  • Loras ran its individual match winning streak to 54, posting clean sweeps in both contests on Saturday.
  • Senior Kylie DeWees recorded her fourth and fifth wins of the season at No. 1 as well as a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles with senior Jesisca Dickhut. 
  • Sophomore Emma Cooke ran her winning streak to 12 and overall record to 17-2 with wins at the No. 3 spot on Saturday. In doubles action, Cooke combined with junior Ayla Graziano for two wins and improved to 7-2.
  • Freshman Patricia Patnode improved to 3-0 with wins at No. 6 singles.
  • The duo of junior Rachael Molidor and freshman McKenna Craff ran their season record to 8-2 with their fifth consecutive win, 8-0.

UP NEXT
Men's tennis returns to Iowa Conference competition on Wednesday against Wartburg on the road. First serve from Waverly is scheduled for 4 p.m. Women's tennis continues their non-conference road schedule on Thursday, March 30 against Beloit. First serve against the Buccaneers is scheduled for 4 p.m.
