A LOOK AT THE KNIGHTS...
The Wartburg College Knights come to town on Saturday looking to solidify one of the remaining two spots in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament. Their recent form has not been very promising, registering just one victory and recording two draws and two losses.
Last Saturday, the Knights took Dubuque to overtime, but fell 1-0, conceding the game-winning goal in the 94th minute.
Brittany Frush leads the Knights on offense, totaling 10 goals and adding three assists for 23 points. The junior has scored three game-winning goals, but has been kept off the scoresheet since September 28.
In goal, Beth Crow handles the duties between the pipes and has kept opponents in check, posting a 0.81 Goals Against Average, an .862 save percentage and five shutouts.
ABOUT THE DUHAWKS...
The difficult schedule appears to be paying off for the Duhawks as they now have rattled off four straight victories and four consecutive shutouts.
According to Massey Ratings, the Duhawks have a SOS rating of 73, while University of Dubuque has a rating of 147 and Luther has a rating of 208. The Duhawks will need some help if they hope to win their fifth straight IIAC title as they are tied with Dubuque atop the table. The Spartans own the tie-breaker if the teams finish with identical records at the end of the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Hannah Wilson was named Iowa Conference Defender of the Week following her eight-save shutout performance against Luther last Saturday. Entering the day, Luther had averaged 2.64 goals per game. The shutout loss was only the second time this season that the Norse had been blanked.
POSTSEASON ON THE HORIZON...
With only two regular season contests remaining, the Duhawks will begin to look ahead at the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament. Winners of the last four, the Duhawks currently sit as the No. 2 seed as they are in a tie with Dubuque at the top of the table. If the season were to end today, Loras would receive a first round bye in the tournament and play the winner of the #4 vs. #5 match.
TRUESDALE MOVING UP IN THE RECORD BOOK...
Junior
Katie Truesdale sits in fourth place all-time for career points and goals, surpassing Katie Ryan who played at Loras from 2004-2007. Through her first 61 games as a Duhawk, Truesdale has scored 36 goals and 13 assists, totaling 85 points.
The all-time scoring record is held by Michelle Wieser who accumulated 87 goals and 53 assists, totaling 227 points from 2001-2004.
SHINING ON THE RED CARPET...
On September 30, senior
Claire Murphy found herself in the right place at the right time to be the hero for the Duhawks. With Loras and Central drawn at 1-1 with overtime looming, freshman
Alexis O'Neill delivered a corner kick to junior
Katie Truesdale in front of goal. Off a deflection, Murphy tapped home the winner as time expired, lifting the Duhawks to victory.
Following the game, Loras College Television (LCTV) shared their footage of the goal on Twitter and got the attention of ESPN's SportsCenter. As a part of their Top 10 plays segment, the Duhawks were ranked as the third best play of the night.
