Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 13, 2023) – The Loras College tennis programs are in action this weekend at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, South Carolina, but the Duhawk women fell to Stockton University 7-2 on Monday to get the week started.
The Duhawks (10-6) suffered their first loss of the spring portion of the schedule by claiming just one singles and one doubles match on Monday morning. It's the first time ever that the Duhawks and Ospreys (4-1) from New Jersey have met on the tennis courts.
In doubles play, the Duhwawks got their win from the No. 2 duo of sophomore
Caroline Hutchinson and
Leia Papanicholas. Their 8-5 win over their Osprey counterparts sent the match into singles play at a 2-1 Stockton advantage.
Loras' 1-5 came up empty despite No. 4 Hutchinson and No. 5 sophomore
Dorothy Deans forcing their singles matches into third sets. After a 6-0 win to start, Hutchinson fell 12-10 in the tiebreaker to Stockton's Audrey van Schalkwyk.
At No. 6 singles, freshman
Ellie Kalina claimed a pair of 6-4 wins to take the match over Kierstyn Fenimore. It marks the first victory of Kalina's collegiate tennis career.
Loras gets back at it tomorrow, Tuesday March 14, with a 9 A.M. ET match against Carin University at Chaplain Park.
